Initial Prototype Approach for Regional Assessment of Readiness for Automated Vehicles

This project is funded by FHWA and USDOT – Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology.

The Eastern Transportation Coalition is working with the National Renewable Energy Lab to develop a prototype approach for assessing automated vehicle readiness at the regional scale. The approach will consider both physical and digital infrastructure and will build on existing AV readiness frameworks, as well as those developed for other sectors. This project was launched in June 2020 and will conclude in January 2021.

Coalition members are providing input through a number of mechanisms:

  • Initial project kick-off and topic specific breakout groups – June 2020
  • Review and comment on draft AV readiness framework – September 30, 2020
  • Pilot assessment of the draft AV readiness framework within a multistate region (SC, GA and AL) – August through November 2020
  • Final project event – January 2021 (date TBD)
