About Commercial Vehicle Operations
The Coalition is pursuing various projects to promote the interoperability of Intelligent Transportation Systems for Commercial Vehicle Operations in order to improve highway safety and freight mobility for commercial and passenger vehicles in the I-95 Corridor; improve the efficiencies of administrative and enforcement processes and the economic viability of commercial vehicle operations in the I-95 Corridor; and support initiatives to improve homeland security related to commercial vehicle operations and freight movement.
The Coalition is piloting a Truck Parking Availability System, designed to advise over-the-road truck drivers on the real-time availability of truck parking spaces. Because this effort is undertaken by the Eastern Transportation Coalition, rather than an individual state or agency, the system will not be limited by state boundaries or jurisdictional lines.
The Eastern Transportation Coalition, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Transportation, and in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), is undertaking a regional demonstration of Commercial Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (CVII)-based operations utilizing multi-agency, permanently deployed infrastructure. The Commercial Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (CVII) Program develops and tests an intelligent transportation system that uses 5.9 GHz dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) technologies to exchange real time information between VII-compliant roadside infrastructure and vehicles to improve safety, security, mobility, and transportation system asset management. Applications being tested include driver and vehicle safety information and screening, and the project also includes a field demonstration of the 5.9 GHz DSRC commercial vehicle based systems along active highway corridors.
The Eastern Transportation Coalition has developed an online Portal to access information of Motor Carrier – Commercial Vehicle Operating, Credentialing, Registration, Taxation, and Permitting Requirements, Commercial Driver Licensing, Traveler Information, Truck Parking and Weigh Stations, Tolling Information, and Motor Truck Associations for each of the Eastern Transportation Coalition Member States from Maine to Florida. Go to the CVO Online Portal.
